ClipVault Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
ClipVault (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension that records clipboard history locally,
manages text snippets, and provides optional features such as cross-tab search and AI-assisted
tools. This policy explains what data the Extension handles and how it is used.
Summary
- Clipboard history and snippets are stored locally in your browser by default.
- ClipVault does not operate a server that collects your clipboard content.
- Optional AI features send text only to the provider you configure (e.g. OpenAI).
Data we collect and store locally
When you use the Extension, the following may be stored in chrome.storage.local on your device:
- Text you copy while browsing (clipboard history)
- Text snippets you create, including titles, tags, and groups
- Source page URL and title associated with copied items
- Extension settings (theme, language, monitoring options, excluded sites)
- AI API keys and preferences, if you enable AI features
How we use data
- Display and search your clipboard history and snippets inside the Extension
- Provide cross-tab search within your open browser tabs
- Run optional AI actions (summarize, translate, rewrite, tagging) when you enable them
- Respect your settings (excluded sites, auto-delete, monitoring on/off)
Data sharing
ClipVault does not sell or share your clipboard data with ClipVault developers or third parties
for advertising.
If you enable AI features and provide an API key, selected text is sent to that third-party API
(e.g. OpenAI, DeepSeek) according to their privacy policies. You control whether AI is enabled and which provider is used.
Permissions
- clipboardRead — to record copied text for history (when monitoring is enabled)
- storage — to save history, snippets, and settings locally
- Host access (<all_urls>) — to inject the floating ball, detect copies on web pages, and search tab content
- tabs / scripting — for cross-tab search and highlighting matches
Your choices
- Disable automatic clipboard monitoring in Settings
- Add sites to an exclusion list so copies are not recorded on those domains
- Disable the floating ball or AI features
- Export, import, or delete all data from Settings
- Uninstall the Extension to remove locally stored data
Data retention
History items may be automatically removed after the period you configure (default: 30 days).
Favorited items and snippets remain until you delete them. You can clear all data at any time in Settings.
Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will reflect changes.
